*We like all customers to be happy, so if you have a preference on their color, please email us. We will take the time to take a picture of each crab in stock, so you can pick which one you want.*

At the time of purchase, there is a possibility the crabs may be molting. We will email you if that is the case, and we can work out what to do next.

Care:

Lifespan: Hermit Crabs can live up to 40 years old but have an average lifespan of 10-20 years. They live a long time if given proper care and housing as they grow.

Temperature: 80-85 degrees Fahrenheit, that is kept heated by heat pads on the side of the tank.

Tank Size: 20 gallons minimum for 2 small to medium crabs, then 5 gallons per additional crab is a good rule of thumb. It fully depends on how large the crab is. However, the larger the crab the bigger the tank, the more substrate you will need.

Substrate: All natural children's playsand (silica based), coco fiber or a mix of the two. Keep moist but not oversaturated. Substrate must be 3 times deeper than the crab's size.

Water: 1 saltwater bowl (made with marine aquarium salt NOT table salt) that is mixed to what the package recommends and 1 dechlorinated freshwater bowl that is large enough for the crabs to fully soak is required. The water for both bowls should be made with dechlorinated water, Reverse Osmosis or Distilled water. Clean water bowls every couple of days, you like clean water and so do your crabs.

Friends: Despite the name, hermit crabs are actually very social animals. However, they need to have enough space to not get into any fights. They require at least 1 other hermit crab of the same species to be able to thrive and survive. You generally can mix other species in the genus Coenobita but there are no guarantees of how they will all get along.

Diet: Hermit crabs are omnivores which means they need a mix of fruits, vegetables, meat and seafood that is pesticide and fertilizer free. If you need guidance on what to feed them, please email us and we give you detailed instructions. Change food daily to prevent their bowl from getting moldy.

Molting: Every hermit crab will molt at some point under the sand. This takes time so do not be alarmed if one is missing for some time. Just keep up with your care routine and they should turn up again if conditions are good. It will take anywhere from a few weeks to months depending on the size of the crab. The smaller the crab the shorter it takes. Never attempt to dig for the crab, this can interrupt the molting process and may kill the crab.

Shells: 3-5 Natural non-painted shells should be provided per hermit crab. Shells with the same size opening to the crab's shell and larger should always be provided for when the crab grows or wants a new home.
